Free movement of workers

The free movement of workers is a basic right in the EU

The European Union's four fundamental freedoms are the following:

  • free movement of workers
  • free movement of capital
  • free movement of goods
  • free movement of services

The one of the four freedoms of EU citizens is the free movement of workers, which covers the following areas:

  • the free movement and residence of workers
  • the right of family members to entry and reside in any EU country
  • right of EU-citizens to work in any Member States of the EU
  • right of equal treatment in comparison to nationals of the Member State.

If you are a jobseeker or worker and you need information or have questions about your rights regarding the free movement of workers, please contact the EURES advisors.
